Domestic Disturbance and Hostage situation Suspect Shot By Cops

On October 9, 2023, at approximately 2137 hours, 30 year old Joshua Kersey was shot by police as he struggled with a housemate, he had been holding hostage at knife point. Officers responded to the home after Kersey's sister called 911 and reported that he took the keys to her vehicle while intoxicated and drove off then returned and engaged in a heated argument with his family. 

Kersey’s family members including his mother, sister and four children from the home, left and met with officers outside. Officers entered the residence, after learning that Kersey had armed himself with a knife, and there was still an innocent adult male housemate inside. 

Officers attempted to talk with Kersey to peacefully end this situation for some 40 minutes. When the officers heard the sudden sounds of a struggle taking place behind the closed bedroom door, they entered. 
It was when Kersey was shot.
