H3N8 avian flu virus has strong transmission potential, with risk of causing an outbreak

Bird flu is back with a vengeance. It has undergone mutational changes that could increase the risk of the disease being passed on to humans for a potential major outbreak or pandemic, according to a new study. The study reported the discovery of another avian influenza strain, dubbed H3N8, using laboratory mice and ferrets as models for human infection.
