Africa’s English Language Barrier

Young Pan-Africanist Ousman Touray is grabbing a lot of attention with his vision for the continent. And his work has seen him head a think-tank at Gambia University which analyses and debates policy. So, here’s his take on what should be done with African languages. They need to be cherished and promoted to become the continent’s official dialects. After all, Chinese don’t need to speak English to pursue a career in medicine, but people from Gambia and Rwanda do.
He uses Swahili being taught in East African schools as an example to follow. Listen to his arguments and give us yours.
