The 2023 Israel-Gaza conflict, also known as Operation Breaking Dawn (Hebrew: מִבְצָע אוֹר הַשַׁחַר), was a military operation launched by Israel on August 5, 2023, against the Islamic Jihad Movement in Palestine (PIJ) in the Gaza Strip. The operation came after a week-long Israeli military buildup on the Gaza border, following the arrest of a senior PIJ member in the West Bank.
