Richard the Lionheart: Great or Terrible?

Modern historians have degraded the reputation of the legendary crusader king Richard the Lionheart. The common strikes against Richard were his prioritizing France over England, poor military leadership, lack of political savvy and putting his personal legacy over the wellbeing of his people.

When looking at these claims critically however it becomes clear these accusation lack understanding of the middle ages culture or outright mischaracterize Richard himself.
