Jerry Vink started out very enthused and fast-tracked graduating #1 in UPT at Vance and receiving an F-105 assignment, but how the war was being run damped his enthusiasm for an AF career. He realized he was too much of an old independent farm boy to allow the AF to control his life for the next 20+ years. After getting out of the Air Force, he ventured to Alaska and spent 37 years in Alaska building/running operations primarily in large aircraft Part 121 cargo service. He is typed in the CV240, CV340, CV440, DC-6, DC-7, B727, B737, and L382 and now semi-retired and living in California.

There are very few that can say they landed a DC-6 on a sandbar in the Yukon River.
