A German school teacher in Berlin punched a Palestinian student in the face for holding up a Palestinian flag. The 61-year-old teacher works at the Ernst-Abbe school in the Neukölln district, which is home to a large Palestinian population.

The student has been suspended, and numerous local newspapers and the police have claimed that the student provoked the assault even though none of the many witnesses there have confirmed this. A parent representative said the violence was initiated by the teacher adding that two weeks ago the teacher threw a student out of class for wearing a necklace with the Palestinian flag. "He told her to put the necklace away. She didn't understand why. He ran after her provocatively when she wanted to go to the bathroom and took her crying to the school administration."

Several schools in the Neukölln district have voiced concern over possible "dances of joy among Arab students" and "expressions of sympathy for Islamist terror" following the operation launched by the Palestinian resistance last weekend. An elementary school principal also announced he would speak to local politicians to consider "how to prepare for this."
