Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro has warned that the people of the world, whether Christian, Muslim or Jew, must come together and denounce the ‘genocide’ that is occurring in Gaza, in the wake of Hamas’ attack on Israel. ‘No electricity, no water, no fuel. Total blockade, invasion of Gaza. There, in a small space, live millions of human beings who, for decades, have been bombed, tortured, attacked, persecuted, and martyred,’ he said with an intensity designed to reference his own country’s sanctioning by the US, which he has described as a ‘blockade.’

Maduro called for immediate peace negotiations, and called for the establishment of a sovereign Palestinian state, in accordance with the 1967 UN resolution. ‘The world has to react and say no to the genocide against the people of Gaza, no to the genocide against the Palestinian people. The Christian world, the Muslim world, the Jewish world, the world of the South has to react. We have to wake up,’ he said.
