Here's a basic recipe for Chicken Biryani:

Ingredients:

For the Chicken Marinade:
- 500g chicken, cut into pieces
- 1 cup yogurt
- 1 tablespoon ginger-garlic paste
- 1 teaspoon red chili powder
- 1/2 teaspoon turmeric powder
- Salt to taste

For the Rice:
- 2 cups basmati rice, washed and soaked for 30 minutes
- 4-5 cups water
- 2-3 green cardamom pods
- 2-3 cloves
- 1-inch cinnamon stick
- Salt to taste

For Biryani Masala:
- 2 onions, thinly sliced
- 2 tomatoes, chopped
- 2 green chilies, slit
- 1/2 cup chopped coriander leaves
- 1/2 cup chopped mint leaves
- 1/4 cup fried onions (for garnish)
- Ghee or oil for cooking
- Saffron strands soaked in warm milk (optional, for garnish)

Instructions:

1. Marinate the chicken with yogurt, ginger-garlic paste, red chili powder, turmeric powder, and salt. Let it sit for at least 30 minutes.

2. In a large pot, bring water to boil. Add rice, green cardamom, cloves, cinnamon, and salt. Cook until the rice is 70% cooked. Drain and set aside.

3. In a separate pan, heat some ghee or oil. Add sliced onions and fry until they turn golden brown. Remove half of the fried onions for garnish.

4. In the same pan, add the marinated chicken. Cook until it changes color and is partially cooked.

5. Add chopped tomatoes and green chilies. Cook until the tomatoes become soft and the chicken is cooked through.

6. Layer the partially cooked rice over the chicken mixture in the pot. Sprinkle chopped coriander and mint leaves.

7. Place a few saffron-soaked strands and the reserved fried onions on top for garnish.

8. Cover the pot with a tight-fitting lid and cook on low heat for about 20-25 minutes, or until the rice and chicken are fully cooked and the flavors have melded together.

9. Gently fluff the biryani with a fork before serving. Enjoy your homemade Chicken Biryani!

Feel free to adjust the spice levels to your preference. Biryani is often served with raita or a side salad.
