The parents of Phoebe Johnson, a 17-year-old girl who lost her life in a devastating car accident, are urging everyone to watch the distressing footage as a powerful reminder of the risks of drunk driving.
In October 2021, Phoebe was a passenger in a car driven by Melissa Keilloh, who openly admitted to being "100%" too intoxicated to drive. The tragic crash occurred on the A514 near Derby, just two weeks before Phoebe's birthday, when Keilloh lost control of the vehicle, speeding at 70mph in a 60mph zone after hitting the kerb on a bend.
Phoebe was ejected from the car, and the heart-wrenching moment of discovery, as Keilloh screamed, "I've killed Phoebe," was captured on her dashcam.
Melissa Keilloh has since been sentenced to three years in jail and a six-and-a-half-year driving ban for causing death by dangerous driving while under the influence of alcohol.
Phoebe's parents, Paul and Nicola, have chosen to release the traumatic footage leading up to the accident to dissuade others from making the same potentially fatal mistake.
Nicola emphasized the life-changing impact of such incidents and implored parents to remain vigilant, saying, "Life can be taken from you in just a heartbeat... I'd say to parents, never stop fussing, and to youngsters, please listen and please look after yourselves."
The footage also includes a chilling moment where Keilloh admitted to feeling too intoxicated to drive before setting off from a house party. Her dangerous overtaking on dark country roads while listening to loud music can be seen, culminating in the catastrophic loss of control.
Paul Johnson reflected on the tragedy, highlighting the importance of making responsible choices when it comes to driving under the influence: "Just don't get in a car if the driver has been drinking, even if it's just one."
