Dennis Meadows (WEF scientist and Club Of Rome member) says we need to reduce the world population from 7 billion to 1 billion and hope that this extinction is peaceful.

Here is what was said verbatim:
“Globally, we are so far above the population and consumption levels that this planet can support that I know it will go back down one way or another. So I don't hope that this can be avoided. I hope this can be done in a civil way, and I mean in a special way. I mean in a peaceful way. Peace does not mean that everyone is happy, but it does mean that the conflict is resolved not by force, by coercion, but by other means. That's what I'm hoping for.
The planet can support about a billion people, maybe two billion, depending on how much freedom and how much material consumption you want. With more freedom and more consumption, you have to have fewer people. And vice versa, if you have more people, we could maybe even have 8 or 9 billion if we have a very strong dictatorship that is intelligent. Unfortunately, there are never smart dictatorships, they are always stupid. But if you have a smart dictatorship and a low standard of living, you can have that, but we want freedom and we want to have a high standard, so we will have a billion people. And we're at 7 now, so we have to come back down. I hope this can happen slowly and in a relatively equal way, so that people share the experience and not a wealthy few forcing everyone else to deal with it. So those are my hopes. Those are pretty pessimistic hopes, but I think that’s what lies ahead.”
