Lynard Skynards fateful flight

Lynyrd Skynyrd was at the height of their fame in the mid-1970s, thanks to hits like "Sweet Home Alabama" and "Free Bird." On that fateful night, the band had just performed at the Greenville Memorial Auditorium in South Carolina and was en route to Baton Rouge, Louisiana, for their next show.

The Convair CV-240, a twin-engine propeller aircraft, experienced technical issues during the flight. One of the engines failed, and the plane began to lose altitude. Despite the efforts of the pilots, they couldn't maintain control.

As the plane descended, it ran out of fuel and crashed into a densely wooded area near Gillsburg, Mississippi. The impact was devastating, and the aircraft burst into flames upon impact.

Tragically, several members of the band, including lead singer Ronnie Van Zant, guitarist Steve Gaines, and his sister, backup singer Cassie Gaines, lost their lives in the crash. Other band members and crew members suffered varying degrees of injuries.
