As twilight descends on the sinful cities of Sodom and Gomorrah, two angels appear in Lot's home with a dire warning. 'Escape for your life,' they urge. 'Destruction is coming.' Lot relays the grave news to his sons-in-law, but they scoff, thinking he's jesting. Dawn arrives, and so does the moment of reckoning. The angels, unable to wait any longer, seize the hands of Lot, his wife, and their two daughters. With God's mercy, they're led out of the city. Lot pleads for an alternative refuge— a small city named Zoar. 'Let me flee there,' he begs, 'and my soul shall live.' The angels grant this last plea. As Lot and his family enter Zoar, divine fire descends from the heavens, reducing Sodom and Gomorrah to ashes. In the midst of the escape, Lot's wife, unable to resist, looks back. In that moment, she turns into a pillar of salt, forever frozen in her last act of defiance. It's a lesson etched in the landscape, a cautionary tale amidst the smoky remains of divine justice.
