The Screwtape Letters is a Christian apologetic novel by C.S. Lewis, published in 1942. It is a collection of 31 letters written by a senior devil, Screwtape, to his nephew, Wormwood, concerning the corruption of a human soul. The letters were written for the purpose of instructing Wormwood on the finer points of how to corrupt the human soul.0 The novel demonstrates how to lead a good Christian life by showing the devils' tactics for corrupting human souls.5 The story is written in a satirical, epistolary style, and the plot and characters are used to address Christian theological issues, primarily those to do with temptation and resistance to it. The Screwtape Letters explains the challenges that human beings face in their lives, highlighting their imperfect knowledge of the world and themselves, foolishness and irrationality, and often disrespecting God.
