WHAT DID YOU FORGET? – Alan Watts (SHOTS OF WISDOM 23)

The most important question of all is the least asked one. Nobody seems to be concerned about knowing who he or she really is, because everybody is identified with the idea he or she has been told about who they are.

Alan Watts' provocative question about what we might have forgotten is much more than a playful instigation of thought about the nature of our own being. It's rather literally meant as a question highlighting the fact that we have indeed lost trace of our real identity, and implying that the very act of forgetting is the mechanism of the divine play of hide and seek.
