Russian President Vladimir Putin has announced that his country has developed the Burevestnik, a cruise missile with a range of thousands of miles and nuclear capability, in the latest successful test. He also said that work on the Sarmat intercontinental ballistic missile system is almost complete.
Speaking at the annual Valdai Discussion Club, Putin emphasized that there is no need to expand Russia's rationale for using nuclear weapons. "Today there is no threat to the Russian state and its existence. No. I think that no one in their right mind and memory would think of using nuclear weapons against Russia."
Putin also said that if such an attack were detected, Russia could hit the target with hundreds or even hundreds of missiles and the enemy would have no chance of survival.
The Russian leader did not rule out the possibility of Russia resuming tests involving nuclear explosions, which were carried out during the last Soviet Union. He noted that the United States has not ratified the treaty banning nuclear tests, while Russia has both signed and ratified it.
