Bempton Mow September 2023

The third annual "wildflower strip" mow with scythes at RSPB Bempton Cliffs, September 2023.

A very variable sward (i.e. the mix of grasses etc.). Tough and tangled rank grass for most of it, with odd patches of softer and lusher material where the wildflowers have started to take more. Hence the variable progress in different locations.

A big thank you to all who joined me to help!

I was using my home-made Swedish inspired snath with a Rasierschnitt 95 blade. Other mowers were using the factory standard "Fux" Austrian style adjustable snath, with various blades, ranging from I think 65 to 95 in length (centimetres, as is the convention for the blade length stamps).
