Hi, it’s Patrik Hutzel from intensivecarehotline.com with another quick tip for families in intensive care.

Now my tip today is about your strategy if you have a loved one in intensive care. So most families that contact us, if they have a loved one in intensive care and they’re asking for help, they don’t really have a strategy and to a degree that’s good because that’s why they come to us because we can help you with a strategy.

But on the other hand, even before you come to us, you should have a strategy. The biggest challenge for families in intensive care that they don’t know what they don’t know and they feel intimidated by the intensive care team. They feel they’re not on the same level than the medical professionals and you need to stop thinking that way. Your strategy is all that matters. You need to start managing the intensive care team and you need to start asking the right questions.

Most families in intensive care, they don’t even know what questions to ask and I don’t blame them because intensive care is such a highly specialized area. It takes years to understand intensive care inside out. And you know, if you don’t have that experience, it’s hard to find a strategy. But it still matters because otherwise the intensive care team will have the upper hand and they will get their agenda through it. That’s not often in the best interest for your family member.
