Sugar gliders acquired their name due to their fondness for consuming nectar and flowers, although they also include insects in their diet. The scientific moniker, Petaurus breviceps, translates to "short-headed rope dancer." Interestingly, sugar gliders were introduced to Tasmania in 1835 and are the sole glider species in that state. These creatures are in high demand in the pet trade, particularly in the United States of America.
