A man who broke into Windsor Castle armed with a loaded crossbow to kill the late Queen has been sentenced to nine years for treason.

Jaswant Singh Chail was found on the grounds on Christmas day, in 2021 - while Queen Elizabeth was in residence.

Chail posted a video beforehand dressed in dark clothes and a metal mask, adopting the persona of a Star Wars villain. He said he was seeking revenge for the 1919 Amritsar massacre - in which 15 hundred Indians were shot by British troops.

The Old Bailey heard he was encouraged by an artificial intelligence girlfriend.

The Judge said Chail was culpable when he devised his plot but had 'lost touch with reality' and become psychotic by the time he carried it out.
