NASA's Solid Rocket Booster Recovery Ships in Action: USA Dunks on the World!
11
ASA has released an unprecedented video capturing Kennedy Space Center's solid rocket booster (SRB) recovery ships in action as they retrieve SRB segments from the Atlantic Ocean after a space shuttle launch. This remarkable footage is from the most recent shuttle mission, STS-133, marking Discovery's final flight on February 24. Following each space shuttle launch, the crews of Liberty Star and Freedom Star diligently recover the spent boosters from the ocean and transport them back to Hangar AF at Cape Canaveral Air Force Station in Florida. After processing, these boosters are shipped to Utah for refurbishment and potential storage, contributing to the cost-effective reusability of these critical components.
