CMCTR: Does Seattle Really CARE About The Community?

Seattle has created a new third public safety department-- separate from police and fire-- the civilian Community Assisted Response and Engagement (CARE) department. 911 Dispatchers have been relocated from PD to this department, and will be tasked with dispatching alternative responses to public health and safety incidents, including behavioral health professionals.

After 2020, calls across the country went out to change policing as we know it, but is this an optimistic model for the country or a unpragmatic pipe dream?

Veteran cop Drew and active dispatcher Jon look at this new model of public safety, and are joined by Abby Ellsworth from the northwest-based civilian podcast "On Being A Police Officer," and all will give their takes.
