On July 8, 2020, at approximately 6:35 a.m., Phoenix Police officers responded to a call at a hotel located in the area of 10400 N. Black Canyon Highway. The caller stated his roommate was becoming “crazy,” so he kicked her out and then saw her shoot a gun outside. When the officers arrived, the caller directed them to a 24-year-old woman who they contacted. Three officers contacted the woman. The officers secured her bag and
asked her if she had a gun. She said she did not.

While speaking to the woman, it was discovered she had a misdemeanor warrant for her arrest and what were believed to be illegal drugs in her bag. As the officers attempted to detain her, she struggled to get away and pulled out a handgun from her waist area. As the officers struggled with her, she fired a round, narrowly missing the officers. The woman pulled away with the gun still in her hand. Two officers fired their weapons, striking the woman, which ended the threat. The woman was transported to the hospital
by Phoenix Fire Department personnel. She is expected to survive. No officers or bystanders were injured.
