Here's a simple recipe for fried chicken and French fries:
**Fried Chicken:**

- 1 cup buttermilk
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon pepper
- 1 teaspoon paprika
- 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder

1. Peel the potatoes and cut them into thin strips or wedges.
2. Soak the potato strips in cold water for about 30 minutes to remove excess starch. Drain and pat them dry with paper towels.
3. Heat the vegetable oil to 350°F (175°C) in a deep fryer or large pot.
4. Carefully add the potato strips in batches to avoid overcrowding the oil. Fry until they are golden and crispy (about 2-3 minutes per batch).
5. Remove the fries with a slotted spoon and let them drain on paper towels.
6. Season the hot fries with salt to taste.
