President Trump's announcement of a renewed focus by U.S. military forces in Afghanistan on killing terrorists, with the intent of achieving lasting peace in the war-torn nation, showed an appreciation for the advice given to him by his generals on the ground.

Gone will the days be of telegraphing operations and movements and in their place will be a military empowered by the needs and decisions based on the boots on the ground.

The new path forward signals an appreciation for why the United States has been there in the first place. And it tells the people of Afghanistan, and the victims of terror for the last sixteen years, that the United States will not forget and will not give up.
