Unfortunately for golem ex, it is not a very good card with any usable aspect that can stand out from other pokemon. This can be said about most golem cards actually. However, if you are going to use it energy acceleration is crucial and this is where claydol comes in. Of course it is compatable with double colorless energy variants so claycol isn't a complete necessity, but a partnership between them is still a solid way to use the deck and also forces us to run a turbo type build.
