A recent study has revealed that a simple lifestyle change can be as effective as structured #exercise and certain medications in reducing #highbloodpressure.

The research highlights the potential of adding just 3,000 steps per day to significantly lower high blood pressure in older adults, which is crucial for protecting against heart failure, heart attacks, and strokes.

The study focused on sedentary older adults between the ages of 68 and 78, who initially walked around 4,000 steps daily. After sending participants pedometers and monitoring tools during the COVID-19 pandemic, the researchers found that adding 3,000 steps significantly reduced systolic and diastolic blood pressure, with averages of seven and four points, respectively.

This underscores the importance of total physical activity volume in improving health, regardless of walking intensity or frequency, and holds promise for larger clinical trials in the future.
