Bitcoin and The End of History

In this video, I discuss Francis Fukuyama's thesis that the fall of the USSR and the triumph of liberal democracy marked "the end of history."

Contra Fukuyama, history has only accelerated and taken on darker and darker forms since the publication of Fukuyama's book. It has seen the rise of the modern surveillance state, and the curtailment of liberties across the board in the name of "national security" and "forever wars."

I maintain that the beginning of the real end of history began with the rise of the cypherpunks and culminated with the invention/discovery of Bitcoin.

Bitcoin makes it impossible for authoritarians of all stripes to debase or seize private property, and Bitcoin makes these protections accessible to everyone everywhere.

By doing so, Bitcoin moves us beyond government killing and theft and into a new form of political existence where governments need to treat their citizens well, or risk losing them to competing, more-friendly jurisdictions.
