For all those who want the full explanation.
There is more than one way to skin a cat so too their is more than 1 way to concentrate solar rays, to split a rock.

You could use a parabolic reflective mirror, made from various very shiny metallic surfaces.

If you cut a crystal ball in half, you can use the resulting lens to concentrate a beam of light down to a point.

The same thing could be achieved with something called a fresnel lens.

It captures all the important curvature of normal optical lenses, but collapses it down to use less material or less glass.

The concentrated heat source cause the rock to fracture not because of water trapped within the rocks, but because of the heat expansion coefficient difference between metal minerals and quartz, which is basically microscopic glass inside the rock. So, it will either crack violently or melt like glass.

Lastly, a magnifying glass sole purpose isn't to make things bigger, it can also gather and concentrate light and so too can all reflective material not just glass but even quarts, gold and silver. And that concentrated energy source can prove to be very useful.
