House Speaker Kevin McCarthy has called for disciplinary action against Rep. Jamaal Bowman, a Democrat from New York, following an incident where Bowman pulled a fire alarm in a Capitol office building on a recent Saturday. McCarthy drew a comparison between this incident and the actions of the rioters who attacked the Capitol on January 6th.

McCarthy expressed his concerns, stating, "When you think about how other people were treated when they came in and wanted to change the course of what was happening in the building..." He went on to emphasize that the Ethics Committee should treat the pulled fire alarm incident seriously.

McCarthy stressed, "This should not go without punishment. I'm going to have a discussion with the Democratic leader about it. But this should not go without punishment. This is an embarrassment."

In response to the controversy, Rep. Bowman issued a statement, asserting that the alarm was pulled unintentionally.
