The crews of MiG-31 fighters practiced intercepting a mock enemy cruise missile
in the sky over Chukotka

In the waters of the Chukotka and Bering seas, as well as on the Chukotka Peninsula, the tactical exercise of the forces of the Pacific Fleet ‘Finval-2023’ to protect communications of the Northern Sea Route took place. The exercise was conducted under the leadership of the Commander-in-Chief of the Russian Navy, Admiral Nikolai Evmenov.

One of the important episodes of the exercise was the development of air defense actions for the Chukotka Peninsula from air attack weapons of a mock enemy. To intercept cruise target missiles, two MiG-31 fighters on duty were scrambled from the Anadyr airfield. Their crews destroyed air targets using air-to-air missiles.

After completing the assigned tasks, the aircraft returned to their home airfield.
About ten thousand military personnel and more than 50 pieces of military equipment are taking part in the tactical exercise ‘Finval-2023’, including: surface ships and support vessels, submarines, naval aircraft and helicopters, coastal missile systems Bal and Bastion, as well as wheeled and tracked armoured vehicles with high cross-country ability.

During the maneuvers, cruise missiles were successfully fired at a complex target position in the northeastern part of the Bering Sea. All episodes of the exercise are defensive in nature and are intended to improve the training of forces and troops for operations on the northeastern borders of Russia.
