California Governor Gavin Newsom has appointed Laphonza Butler, a Democratic strategist, as the successor to the late Senator Dianne Feinstein in the U.S. Senate. Senator Feinstein, a long-serving Democrat, passed away at the age of 90 last week. This appointment will see Butler serving out the remainder of Senator Feinstein's term in Washington, D.C., leading up to the 2024 election.
