Nobel Committee: prize winners saved millions of lives

Hungarian scientist Katalin Kariko and U.S. colleague Drew Weissman, who met in line for a photocopier before making mRNA molecule discoveries that paved the way for COVID-19 vaccines, won the 2023 Nobel Prize for Medicine on Monday (October 2). Rickard Sandberg, member of the Nobel Assembly at Karolinska Institute said together they have saved millions of lives, while Gunilla Karlsson Hedestam, Chair of the Nobel Committee lauded the "beautiful" example of discovering something that can later become useful for the whole world.
