I was browsing the used camera market recently, as I often do, and I noticed that with a theoretical budget of just $100, there is actually quite a bit to choose from.
However, I didn't want to be the one to pick. I thought it would be more fun to post a poll and ask all of you what you thought would be the best use of $100, with the options being narrowed down to
1) Canon 30D with nifty-fifty
2) Sony RX100 (original)
3) Nikon D80 (Body only)
Each of these cameras has a lot going for it, and I know many people that would choose each one.
For the Nikon, you have that legendary CCD sensor and the ability to use a huge variety of legacy lenses.
For the Sony, you have a built in lens with a great and super convenient zoom lens (28-100mm equivalent) that is small enough to fit in your pocket.
With the Canon, you have a professional grade camera body that was known as the "baby 5d" along with a fast prime lens.
After one week, 75% of you chose the Canon. So, that is what I bought and that is the only camera I used.
Unlike the last video, I did not limit myself to JPEG only or just one lens. Instead, I limited myself to just 36 photos - just like a roll of film. Aside from often thinking in terms of film since I have shot so much of it, I loved the old documentary about the last roll of Kodachrome, being shot by Steve McCurry. He took that one roll, those 36 photos, and he made the most of it by going around the world for those 36 shots.
So, I took a note from Mr. McCurry and decided to take a little trip all around Taichung in order to get my 36 photos.
