“Open Discussions on Race in Barbados” is a hard hitting documentary which deals with the race issue in Barbados in a visceral and frank manner.

This documentary is the brain child of Director Marcia Weekes who after dealing with the underlying theme of racial issues in her upcoming movie “Vigilante-the Crossing”, and hearing of the experiences of the actors both white and black during the shoot.

She recognized that there was a need for a serious and compelling production which would reveal the truth between societal and class barriers which are dividing the races in Barbados.

The conversations will reveal many aspects of discrimination that the viewer will find surprising. In order to access the true perspective of a cross section the Barbadian society both the young and old were interviewed, from the rich to the poor.
From actors and crew who appear in Vigilante to the opinions of the average Barbadian in the street.

The production is effectively hosted by Janna O’Donnell who manages to deal with this hot topic with charm and finesse
The entire tone of the program is very warm and conversational though the views expressed are controversial and will make the viewers think.

For broadcast purposes each episode is 24 minutes long allowing for advertising which would make it a 30 minute production.
This production because of the diverse personalities interviewed targets a wide viewership demographic and because of the racial issues highlighted would have an audience both regionally and internationally.
