history of the city of Wonosobo

Wonosobo is a district located in Central Java Province, Indonesia. The capital is Wonosobo Kota District. This district borders Temanggung Regency and Magelang Regency to the east, Purworejo Regency to the south, Kebumen Regency and Banjarnegara Regency to the west, and Batang Regency and Kendal Regency to the north.

Wonosobo Regency was established on July 24 1825 as a district under the Yogyakarta Sultanate after fighting in the Diponegoro War. Kyai Moh. Ngampah, who assisted Diponegoro, was appointed as the first regent with the title Kanjeng Raden Tumenggung (K.R.T.) Setjonegoro.
