A massive class action suit has been filed against makers of decongestants containing phenylephrine (Sudafed, Vicks NyQuil and Benadryl Allergy Plus Congestion etc); placebo trials show they don’t work. About 242 million products with phenylephrine were sold in the US last year, generating $1.76 billion of sales and accounting for about four-fifths of the market for oral decongestants.
