Abandoned building fire leaves 1 hospitalized from fall in east valley
A structure fire in the east valley of Las Vegas resulted in one person being hospitalized, as reported by the Clark County Fire Department (CCFD). Responding to multiple calls around 7 p.m., the incident occurred in the 1000 block of Sierra Vista Drive, near Desert Inn Road and Maryland Parkway.
The fire, initially reported in an abandoned building with potential occupants, prompted CCFD to initiate ground operations for an offensive attack. A ladder was deployed to evacuate individuals from the two-story commercial building. One person sustained injuries from a fall and was transported to the hospital.
As the magnitude of the fire and the building size became apparent, CCFD elevated the response to a second-alarm fire. The strategy shifted to a defensive stance. Around 8:10 p.m., the roof of the building collapsed. Fire crews continued efforts to extinguish the flames as of 8:30 p.m.
Local news outlet 8 News Now has personnel at the scene, witnessing smoke and flames emanating from the area. The situation remains dynamic, and updates will be provided as new information becomes available.
