Semper Fidelis ~ Always Faithful ~ Horace Self

A thousand gobs,
Laid down their swabs,
To lick one sick marine.
A thousand more,
Stood by and swore,
'Twas the best fight, they'd ever seen.

In loving memory of one of this country's finest marines, Horace Self, who I was extremely fortunate to call "Grandaddy." The aforementioned verse was one of his favorite ditties, even though his only son was a Navy man. Lol.

I'd tell y'all his middle name but I never knew it. According to him he didn't have one. When asked why not he'd reply, "They didn't give 'em out back then." Uncle Zero is in the second picture, in case anyone is curious what he looked like. I mention it because there there aren't many photos of the most Grand of the Wizards floating around from the Dallas area during the JFK era.

(Songs are "Never grow old" - Johnny Cash; "The Old Man" and "Softly as I leave you" - Frank Sinatra -- Fair Use Claimed under DMCA; any violations claimed must disclose to crosstimbersntx@gmail.com, and provide statute required statement of infringement, sworn by alleged victim. At that point, a consideration would be made if this video were monetized. But, it isn't. So it won't be changed.)
