Thawing waste water pipes in an unusual way

A few days ago, the temperature got down to well below freezing and the dump lines for the Grey tank ended up freezing. I battled for two days using a buddy heater, a little electric heater and heat tape to try and get it thawed. The one thing that finally gave me the edge to win this battle? Take a wild guess.
