Deconstructing AOC's Misleading Comparison: Ellis Island vs. Current Immigration

Congresswoman AOC, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, attempted to draw a comparison between the current migration numbers and those of Ellis Island in the late 1800s to mid 1900s, incorrectly suggesting it was from the same century.

She claimed that over 50 years, 12 million people legally entered the U.S. through Ellis Island, averaging 12,000 monthly, while Eagle Pass, Texas, now faces nearly the same daily influx from a single town.

Social media rightfully criticized her for this misleading comparison. Importantly, Ellis Island represented legal immigration from Europe and included rigorous health screenings, with those unable to recover quickly sent back to their ports of departure.

This underscores the importance of making informed choices when electing officials to represent us, especially considering AOC's previous occupation as a bartender before entering Congress.
