In 1928, one of the most well-documented cases of exorcism in the 20th century took place. These diabolical and creepy events surrounded Anna Ecklund, a woman whose alleged demonic possession and exorcism occurred over several decades, administered to by the exorcist Father Theophilus Riesinger. Also known as the Earling Possession, the events that took place in a secluded convent in Iowa over a series of nights would go on to shape society’s very conception of exorcism, with Riesinger going on to inspire the exorcist in the film The Exorcist.
