Today I want to cover facts about iodine. Iodine is a trace mineral. Trace minerals are minerals that are needed in smaller amounts.

Facts about iodine:
1. 30% of the iodine in the body is stored in the thyroid gland. The thyroid gland concentrates iodine and uses it to make hormones.

2. 70% of the iodine in the body is in the:
• Salivary glands
• Breasts
• Ovaries
• Stomach lining
• Eyes
• Cerebral spinal fluid
• Substantia nigra

3. The body doesn’t store iodine. You have to get iodine through your diet. Sea kelp and seafood have more iodine.

4. Iodine helps rid heavy metals. A reaction after taking sea kelp may not be from an allergy. It may be a reaction from the detoxification of heavy metals or chemicals. If there is a reaction, I would stop taking it and wait for it to clear up. Then, I would take smaller amounts gradually over time.

5. Iodine can help reduce insulin resistance

6. Iodine is good for cystic acne

7. Iodine can help with cold feet
