In this video, we’re going to talk about why you can have insulin resistance even if you have a normal A1C.

What is insulin resistance? Insulin resistance is a pre-diabetic state where your body begins to develop a resistance to the hormone insulin. In turn, your body produces more insulin. Over time, this can turn into diabetes.

The A1C test is used to detect diabetes. However, it’s common for an A1C test to come back normal and still have insulin resistance.

Insulin resistance may go undetected until it turns into type 2 diabetes. In fact, it can take up to ten years before insulin resistance turns into diabetes.

A fasting insulin test can help detect insulin resistance before it shows up on an A1C test.

In more severe cases, type 2 diabetics may experience symptoms of type 1 diabetes where the body stops making insulin.
