Body of missing Sailor identified as metro Detroit native, Kenneth Smith

Divers have recovered the remains of a Sailor who was a metro Detroit native. Kenneth Aaron Smith, 22, was on board the USS John S. McCain when the ship collided with a Liberian-flagged merchant vessel on August 21. The U.S. Navy suspended search and rescue efforts for the other missing sailors in a 2,100-square mile area east of the Straits of Malacca and Singapore. However, divers will continue to search the flooded ship for the missing Sailors.
