Net carbs on the ketogenic diet can be hard to understand at first. Let me help.

Today I want to cover net carbs on keto. Typically a person should have about 20-50g of carbs per day on the ketogenic diet. But, we’re actually talking about 20-50g of net carbs, not total carbs. Basically, you take the total carbs and minus the fiber, and then you have the net carbs. Fiber typically has no effect on insulin.

*Total carbs - Fiber = Net carbs

• 1 cup of celery
Total carbs (3g) - Fiber (1.6g) = Net carbs (1.4g)

• 1 cup of tomatoes
Total carbs (7g) - Fiber (2.2g) = Net carbs (4.8g)

• 1 cup of hummus
Total carbs (35g) - Fiber (15g) = Net carbs (20g)

• 1 cup of eggs
Total carbs (0.6g) - Fiber (0g) = Net carbs (0.6g)

• 1 cup of pineapple
Total carbs (22g) - Fiber (2.3g) = Net carbs (19.7g)
