I answer the question, is a little bit of junk food okay on keto and intermittent fasting?

Someone asked why he still had high blood sugars. Really good question! He believed he was doing everything right, including exercising, keto, and intermittent fasting. Yet his blood sugars weren’t coming down. When I asked what he was eating, most of it was good. Except he was still consuming some junk food and alcohol.

He was taking an herb that was supposed to work similar to the diabetes medication metformin, to counter the effects of the insulin from the junk food. If you might be considering doing the same thing, I want you to know this: in the presence of insulin, you can’t lose weight. Your sugars will go up and down along with your insulin levels, creating insulin resistance, and diabetes.

Insulin is a dominating hormone. If it’s even a little too high then no matter what you do to stimulate fat-burning hormones — keto, intermittent fasting, exercise — insulin will cancel all of it out.

What I suggested is that he make alternative pleasure foods. Anything that’s out there, whether cinnamon buns, cookies, candy, can be mimicked with keto-friendly, low-sugar, low-carb treats. Check out the recipes in my book, available at the link above the timestamps. We make amazing desserts and treats on a regular basis for guests, birthdays, and holidays. You don’t have to buy or make the traditional goodies.

In the presence of insulin, you won’t be able to lose weight or tap into your fat stores. Keep all junk food out of your diet.
