I contacted Car 229 (Sergeant Malcolm Miller} by telephone at 0228 hours at the
number provided. Sergeant Miller advised he was on scene. Sergeant Miller
advised he had already spoken to Lieutenant Despain and asked If I wanted a
brief rundown. I said I would like to know a brief synopsis. He said he had two
officers that fired shots and one officer who was a witness. He said they had
responded to a domestic violence Incident called in by the daughter of the female
victim who told dispatch that a man was wielding a knife.
He said that two of his officers were riding as one unit. He said he was advised that the suspect charged
at the officers with the knife and the officers fired. He advised that Officer Brian
Smith witnessed the event but did not shoot and Officers Beau Gadegaard and
Taylor Banks fired their weapons. He further stated that the mother (victim of the
domestic) reportedly made a statement to Sergeant Rob King (9th Mobile
Division} that the suspect "charged" at the officers and they "did what they had to do!"
