In this video, I’ll tell you about metabolic syndrome, also called syndrome X. Metabolic syndrome is a collection of several conditions including high blood pressure, belly fat, and high blood sugar and cholesterol. Other countries besides the US specify a couple of additional conditions as part of metabolic syndrome.
If you look up something called hyperinsulinemia (high insulin), you’ll probably find information stating it’s associated with metabolic syndrome. But really, high insulin causes metabolic syndrome.
For example, a Wikipedia entry about high insulin describes it as having a “close association” with metabolic syndrome that “suggest or relate a common mechanism of pathology”. This just confuses people!
When you get fat, you develop insulin resistance, but to initially gain weight it was high insulin that got you there. Insulin increases the synthesis of fatty acid from glucose. In other words, insulin turns glucose into fat. As well, it inhibits the breakdown of fat. Insulin causes obesity. Pretty clear, right?
“High insulin may lead to diabetes, high cholesterol, hypertension, coronary heart disease, cardiovascular disease, and weight gain,” the Wikipedia entry further states. “Treatment is typically achieved via diet and exercise…a low carbohydrate diet is effective in reducing hyperinsulinemia”. I was waiting for the recommendation to eat a low-carb diet!
But, in the end, there’s an emphasis on eating soy. But soybean oil promotes the conditions associated with metabolic syndrome. However, food manufacturing companies, and the chemical companies behind them, pull a lot of strings — so of course, it’s in their interest for you to eat soy.
Now you know that metabolic syndrome is purely caused by high insulin.
