In this video, Dr. Berg explains what are some reasons you get sleepy after eating protein. The reason would be excessive protein and too much meat. I do recommend smaller portions because a lot will raise your blood sugar. Lower the fat in protein will trigger the insulin from the pancreas but it will also trigger another hormone that comes from the pancreas called Glucagon.

Glucagon does balance the insulin and is a fat-burning hormone, but you don’t want to have too much insulin because it will cause insulin resistance.

A typical way to get sleepy would be a protein with carbs such as meat and potatoes and you want to avoid that combination. Lastly would be low stomach acid and you would know if you have it by getting heartburn, indigestion, acid reflux, bloating, and gas. This means you need more acid to help with the digestion of protein.

Glucagon is the opposing hormone to insulin, which is triggered by moderate protein, intense exercise, and low carbs.
